Durwood McGuffee, the founder of the law firm, received a Bachelor of Arts from Millsap's College, Jackson, Mississippi, a Master of Divinity, cum laude, from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi. Upon graduation from Law school, he engaged in a one year judicial clerkship in the Mississippi trial courts.

 He is admitted to practice by the State Bar of Mississippi, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is a member of the Hinds County Bar Association and the Madison County Bar Association.
